Pupils
The world of work is a fast paced and ever-changing environment. With currently over 36.4 million jobs in the United Kingdom, it is vital that all students are fully informed and prepared for making the choices, regarding their next steps after Hummersknott Academy (Post-16).
We aim to support you, so that your transition from school to your next step on your careers journey is as smooth and uncomplicated as it can be.
Personal Independent Careers Guidance
We will ensure that in Year 10/11, all pupils will have a scheduled 1:1 appointment of an hour, to discuss future intentions and careers. Their appointment will be with a member of the Career Wave team currently Cath Gibbons. Cath will be able to give you guidance and support, so that you can make the right choice. She will not tell you what to do or where to go, but signpost you to the right information.

Child Employment
Gaining a part time job can be a great experience, boost confidence and be very rewarding. You must be at least 13 years old to be able to gain paid employment. You must also be registered with Darlington Borough Council, when starting any part time work – it is your employer’s responsibility to request a work permit, but you or your parents can ask for an application form. There are strict rules that apply to when, how long and where you can work. For more information or to download an application form see the below link:
