Homework Hub
Pupils will be set homework from all subjects on a weekly or fortnightly basis depending on how often they have a lesson. This is based on a schedule which you can see below
They will be using knowledge organisers to learn key information for the subject, which they will be tested on.
Their teacher will tell them which section of the knowledge organiser they need to learn each time. They should learn the information in this section at home, ready for the test in class. They have a dedicated homework book in which to do this. The teacher will put the date of the test onto Class Charts.
They should use learning methods which are ‘active’ as these help to learn and remember information better.
What are knowledge organisers?
Knowledge organisers contain all the essential knowledge that pupils MUST know in order to be successful in their lessons. They help pupils to recap, revisit and revise what they have learnt in lessons.
This is important because they need the information in their long-term memory for end of year exams. Information only moves into your long-term memory when you practise it again and again.
How can I learn from a knowledge organiser?
At home pupils need to learn the key section their teacher has set as homework. The best way to do this is:
- Spend 10-15 minutes learning it, two or three times a week. This repetition will help it stick in their long-term memory
- Use an ‘active learning’ technique. Just looking at something does help us learn it so they need to practise in some way
- Test themselves on it to see how much they can remember and what they need to look over again.
Please see the attached poster which details the recommended ways in which they can learn information from their knowledge organisers, which are also going to be practised in school.
