PSHE/RSE
Our Aim
At Hummersknott Academy, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive PSHE education programme, that includes the new statutory requirements for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education. Government guidelines outline that the Health Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) aspects of PSHE education is now compulsory in all secondary schools from September 2020.
PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy and productive lives, allowing them to meet their full potential. We aim to prepare students for life, helping them to really know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world. We hope that through the teaching of the different threads in the PSHE and RSE curriculum, students will learn strategies to help them stay safe and healthy and be able to manage their personal and social lives in a positive way. Key areas are revisited so students can gain a good understanding of how to be healthy, how to create respectful relationships and how to look after their mental wellbeing.

Parental Guides
We know that parents and carers play the most important role in a child’s learning and wellbeing. Our PSHE and RSE Parental Guides are here to help you feel confident and informed about what your child is learning in school.
These guides explain, in simple and clear language, the topics we cover – such as friendships, emotions, staying safe, growing up, and healthy relationships – and why they’re important for your child’s development.
You’ll also find helpful tips for talking about these subjects at home, so you can support your child in a way that feels natural and comfortable. Our aim is to work together with families, making sure every child receives consistent messages that help them feel safe, supported and ready for life.
