Administering of Medicine

The Academy has a policy that staff can administer medicine. If your child is required to take any medication, including Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, during school time could you please fill in the consent form (see information below) and give it to your child to bring in with their medication (which is to be kept in the Main Office).  The school will not give your child medicine unless you complete and sign this form to give your consent.

In addition, current advice is that prescribed medication which needs to be taken three times per day (e.g. antibiotics) does not need to be taken in school and therefore we will only administer medication when it is required to be taken four times per day and have received the signed consent form together with the medication, which must be in the original container as dispensed by the Pharmacy and must be clearly labelled with your child’s name (the name we have on our system).  Your child must also have received his/her first dose of the medication prior to coming into school (in case of allergic reaction).

An ‘Administration of Medication Form‘ must be completed, signed and returned to school before medication can be administered – this can be found as an appendix in the Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions Policy which can be found here in the Policies and Procedures section of our website.
